Private Reserve of Natural Heritage
A Private Reserve of Natural Heritage is a type of preservation area in Brazil. The Private Reserves were implemented by Decree 1922 of 5 June 1996. Article 1 defines Private Reserve of Natural Heritage - RPPN - as areas of private domain to be specially protected by the owner. To obtain the title of Reserve of Natural Heritage property must meet certain environmental requirements, such as high biodiversity, scenic look, ecological relevance or by their environmental characteristics that justify actions to recover, as the continuous properties Parks and other units considered priorities for conservation.
The private reserves, in addition to preserving natural environments with high biodiversity, can offer their owners some legal benefits, such as exemption from local taxes and financing the fund lost from environmentalists and government entities, and to receive visitors and charge for it.[1]
