Rhys Browne (born 15 November 1995) is an Antiguan footballer who plays as a winger or striker for Aldershot Town of the National League. He has been capped twice for the Antigua and Barbuda national football team.

Club career

Norwich City as a youth player joining from Interwood in 2012.[1] He was part of the squad that won the 2012–13 FA Youth Cup, 4–2 on aggregate over Chelsea and the Norfolk Senior Cup that same season with a 2–0 win over Wroxham.[1] At the end of the 2013–14 season, he was released by Norwich and subsequently joined Charlton Athletic. It was announced in May 2015 that he was to be released from Charlton.[2][3]

Following his release from Charlton, Browne went on trial with National League club Aldershot Town.[4] During his time on trial he scored in friendlies against Basingstoke Town and Chelsea under-21s,[4] and was signed on 31 July 2015.[4] Browne made his début and scored his first goal for Aldershot in the 2–1 home defeat to Gateshead on 8 August 2015 in the National League.[5]

International career

Browne made his international début for Antigua and Barbuda on 10 June 2015 in the 4–1 home defeat to St Lucia in the 2018 FIFA World Cup CONCACAF qualification Second Round First Leg match coming on as a substitute for Kieran Murtagh in the 66th minute.[6] His second cap came in the Second Leg, where he was substituted in the 46th minute in the 4–1 win.[7] Antigua won 5–4 on aggregate, and advanced to the Third Round, where he was called up to the squad to play Guatemala in September 2015.[8]

Style of play

On signing for Aldershot Town, manager Barry Smith said; "Rhys fulfils everything that we’re looking for in a wide player – he’s quick, he’s got a trick, he’s enthusiastic and has had a good upbringing in football. When you see someone as exciting as Rhys you want to have these type of players in your squad".[4]
