Plot

Lin Yuxin (Che Xiao) and Hao Liang (Du Jiang) are college sweethearts deeply in love. Lin's mother Zhang Jianjun (Xie Lin) opposes their romance, and Meng Hao (Deng Chao)—the city's richest bachelor—makes repeated advances towards her, but Lin's devotion remains unswayed. When a restaurant explosion seriously injures Hao, Lin quickly needs ¥300,000 of medical expenses to save his life. Without another choice, she turns to Meng, who agrees to provide her the funds under a condition: marry him and break up all contacts with Hao.

Lin saves Hao with Meng's money and marries Meng per their agreement. Although she resents Meng in the beginning, gradually she develops feelings for him, who has been sweet, caring, considerate and a true gentleman for her. Lin becomes pregnant with Meng's child, but decides to hold the secret until his birthday. Meanwhile, Hao who deeply misses Lin has been driven insane: he drugs and rapes Lin, and tries to blackmail Meng with her nude photos. His crude attempt failing miserably before Meng's resourcefulness, he commits suicide. On the same day, Lin during an argument with Meng falls down the stairs, and loses her fetus to miscarriage.

Lin and Meng are divorced. Lin changes her name and cuts off all contact with her family, making it impossible for Meng to locate her. Meng, however, remains hopeful that he will reunite with her and is completely disinterested in any other girl his nagging mother (Wu Jing) brings home. A year later, Meng and Lin encounter again and Lin immediately realizes she truly misses and loves him. Despite many obstacles, including parental oppositions and a few misunderstandings, the fateful lovers are finally remarried.

On the day they acquire their marriage certificate, two police detectives visit Lin at their residence. The restaurant explosion years ago, they say, was not an accident but a murder. The culprit has died, making it hard to find the person who hired him. Lin cannot remember Hao having any enemies, so who would want him dead? She doesn't know. The answer, however, may be closer to her than she realizes...
