Richard A Kimball, Jr.

Richard A Kimball Jr. was born in Massachusetts in 1963. Kimball is a healthcare industry expert with experience in strategy,[1] capital markets, mergers and acquisitions and public policy. A graduate of Philips Academy 1982, Yale University 1986 and 2016 Fellow in the Stanford University Distinguished Career Institute.[2] He is also an honorary trustee at The Brookings Institution,[3] a member of the World Presidents Organization (YPO/WPO),[4] and former trustee, chairman of the finance committee of the Board of Trustees for the Ralph Lauren Center for Cancer Care and Prevention in Harlem.[5][6] Kimball has been an active angel investor in and advisor to a number of successful technology companies.

Career

Kimball started as an equity capital markets banker for Morgan Stanley (Managing Director) and later joined Goldman Sachs (Partner) where he led that firm’s Global Healthcare Investment Banking business. For 26 years Kimball was involved in projects advising healthcare companies such as Medtronic, Pfizer, Wellpoint, UnitedHealth Group, among many others.

Kimball's early interest in improving outcomes and lowering costs in the healthcare industry led to his involvement in disease management and patient engagement modalities working with such companies as Health Dialog and Definity Health. KImball also sought to assist in the development of technology solutions for the industry including leading the IPOs of AthenaHealth, Accretive Health, Emdeon, WebMD among others. In order to become involved in healthcare public policy, Kimball joined the board of the Brookings Institution where he is now a member of the board and sits on that institution’s Metropolitan Policy Program Leadership Council.[7] Kimball focused on healthcare delivery at the local level and joined the board of the Ralph Lauren Center for Cancer Care and Prevention in Harlem, which is a single member corporation of Memorial Sloane Kettering. Rick chaired the Finance Committee of their Board of Trustees.

Kimball has been quoted in various publications about healthcare, career changes and leadership, see Reuters [8] MSN,[9] Hedgeweek, Inc,.[10] YPO.[11] He is also a contributory author for thestreet.com.[12][13] More recently, Kimball has focused on contributing to the transition from the volume-driven, fee-for-service healthcare system to one that is oriented towards bundled payments, pay-for-performance reimbursement, accountable care and, ultimately, population health. In this context, Kimball helped to facilitate the Healthcare Transformation Project (HTP) at the 2013 HIMSS industry conference. He also joined Accretive Health, a healthcare technology company, as its Chief Strategy and Growth Officer. In this role, Kimball led the development of a transformation strategy to transition the company’s innovative revenue cycle management business into the future by facilitating deeper patient engagement by hospitals [14] and building the foundation for population health programs. Kimball is a Fellow at Stanford University’s inaugural Distinguished Career Institute developing population health management solutions to drive the industry from the fee-for-service paradigm to new fully capitated, care coordination models. Kimball's newest company, HExL, Health x Longevity, was named one of 2015's Most Innovative in Healthcare.[15]

Personal life

Kimball was married to Holly Peterson,[16] a journalist and author, and the daughter of billionaire Peter George Peterson. They have 3 children together.
