Roast of Justin Bieber

The Comedy Central Roast of Justin Bieber was taped March 14, 2015, and broadcast March 30, 2015. It received the third highest television ratings of Comedy Central Roasts. Bieber is the youngest person to ever be roasted at a Comedy Central Roast.[1][2][3][4][5][6]

The roast was perceived to be extremely harsh.[7] The roast was hosted by Kevin Hart.[8] Several jokes about Paul Walker got cut.[9]

Roasters and presentations

The lineup of roasters was mostly secured by Bieber's publicist. People who were approached but declined to participate included Seth Rogen.[10]

Shaquille O'Neal

It was the first Comedy Central roast participated in by Shaquille O'Neal.[11] O'Neal himself was one of the larger secondary targets, with jokes mostly focused on his extreme size.[12]

Martha Stewart

Martha Stewart's participation was well received.[13]

Hannibal Buress

Hannibal Buress made a joke about how the roast was a transparent attempt to be more likable and he hoped it failed, this joke was cut from the final broadcast.[14] He shared it on Twitter after.[15]

Ludacris

Rapper Ludacris with whom Bieber has collaborated, joked that it is obvious that Bieber wants to be black.[16]

Ludacris said after the show that some of the jokes about Paul Walker (a recently deceased co-star of Ludacris's from the The Fast and the Furious movies) went too far.[17]

Natasha Leggero

In an interview after the show Natasha Leggero said she felt guilty about the coat hanger abortion joke she made, after seeing the look on Bieber's face.[18]
