Robert Brewster (Roundhead)

Robert Brewster (1599–1663) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1645 and 1659. He was a general in the Parliamentary army in the English Civil War.

Brewster was the son of Francis Brewster, of Wrentham Hall, Suffolk. He matriculated from Pembroke College, Cambridge at Easter, 1617.[1] He became a general on the Parliamentary Army.

In 1645, he was elected Member of Parliament for Dunwich as a recruiter to the Long Parliament. He survived Pride's Purge and sat until 1653. In 1654 he was elected MP for Dunwich again in the First Protectorate Parliament. He was elected MP for Suffolk in 1656. In 1659 he was elected MP for Dunwich again.[2]

He married Amy, the daughter of Sir Thomas Corbet of Sprowston, with whom he had 2 sons.[3] His eldest son and heir, Francis, was also MP for Dunwich and Suffolk for several years.[1]
