Robert Hiscox

Robert Hiscox is a British businessman. He was the chairman of Hiscox Ltd, the Lloyd's of London underwriter for 43 years, until his retirement in 2013. He is now honorary president.

Career

Robert Hiscox was the son of Ralph Hiscox, who founded Hiscox Ltd in 1946. He was educated at Rugby School and Cambridge University, where he received a bachelor's degree in economics and law.[1][2] He joined Hiscox Ltd as an underwriter in 1965, in fine art and personal accident insurance.[1]

His father died in 1970, and he took over, with Anthony Roberts the other co-founder, moving aside.[1]

He was the chairman for 43 years, until his retirement in 2013. He is now honorary president.[3]

Art collector

Hiscox was a supported of several contemporary British artists including Andy Goldsworthy and John Virtue and owns paintings by Frank Auerbach and Lucian Freud.[1]

Personal life

Hiscox is married with five children and lives in Wiltshire.[2]
