George Hobson, sometimes referred to as Robert E. Hobson, due to a misprint in a Match programme was an Amateur footballer who played with professional clubs. He played for Bishop Auckland, Huddersfield Town, Where also making appearances with the first team, won Central League Medals in seasons 1924-5 & 1925-6 Bradford City and Dulwich Hamlet. Where he won a London Cup Medal 1925. He captained Yorkshire Amateurs, and toured the Baltic States of Lithuania, Latvia & Estonia with them. He also won England Amateur International caps. He had many offers to turn professional from first division clubs but preferred to keep his amateur status due to commitments with his Motor business on Albion Street Leeds. George was also Brother in Law to the Jockey & Trainer Harry Wragg.
