Roberto Alcántara Rojas (born 1947 in Acambay) is a Mexican businessman and head director of the low-cost airline Viva Aerobus [1] and the IAMSA group, a group with more than 5 mayor bus companies in Mexico.
He is the son of late Senator Jesus Alcantara Miranda and the brother in law of Oaxaca's former governor José Murat Casab. His sister, Guadalupe Alcántara Rojas, is currently a candidate running for the Mexican Congress as a plurinominal deputy, and his younger brother, Arturo Alcántara, was a plurinominal deputy from 2003 to 2006.[2] [3]
In 2012 along with Ryanair he founded the Colombian low-cost airline Viva Colombia.
In July 2014 Alcántara invested 100 million Euros in the Spanish Media Company PRISA, making him the largest individual stakeholder.
Alcántara's past jobs includes the director of the former Mexican bank Bancrecer, before declaring bankruptcy.
Since 2015 he has been included along Carlos Slim and Ricardo Salinas Pliego in the List of the 100 most important entrepreneurs in Mexico by CNN. [4]
In April 2015, it was revealed by Proceso Magazine that Alcántara had sold his former house to the most important member of the President's Cabinet, the Secretary of Interior, Miguel Ángel Osorio Chong. Legal documents show that the house was sold at a price of 33,870,190 Mexican Pesos in 2011 just before Osorio Chong took office. The magazine links this transaction with the 3 federal contracts, worth over 4 billion Mexican Pesos (4,000,000,000 MXN), that Alcántara was awarded while Osorio Chong held office.[5]
