Robin Ashwell

Robin Ashwell is an English violist and co-founder of the Sacconi String Quartet which was established in 2001.

Pre-Sacconi life

Ashwell is well known as the viola player of the Sacconi Quartet, which has achieved widespread recognition and received awards. With the Quartet, he made his Wigmore Hall debut in 2004, and has since performed at all of London’s major venues, broadcast regularly on BBC Radio 3, and appeared on numerous CDs.

Musical collaborations

With the Sacconi Quartet, Ashwell has collaborated with various musicians, including Mark Padmore, Pekka Kuusisto, Melvyn Tan, Guy Johnston, Alasdair Beatson, Tom Poster, Bellowhead’s Jon Boden, and actor Timothy West, and has premiered works by György Kurtág, Paul Patterson, John McCabe, Simon Rowland-Jones, Robin Holloway, John Metcalf, and Alun Hoddinott.

Ashwell has made many recordings, including five CDs on the Sacconi Records label.
