Rock was a Yugoslav music magazine, published from 1982 to 1990.
History
Rock was first published in April 1982, under the name Rock 82.[1] Initially, Rock 82 was as a supplement of NIP Politika's comic magazine Strip 82,[1] the back cover of Strip 82 being the front cover of Rock 82. The magazine was published in an unusual format of 11x30cm. The first Editor-in-Chiefs of Rock 82[1] and the initiator of the magazine publishing was critic Peca Popović.[2] In an interview for the documentary series Rockovnik Popović stated:
“ |
I believed that the generation which had already met MTV, [...] that generation of young, curious people, that had already seen how the video killed the radio star, deserves a bit different magazine. A bit more visual magazine, a magazine with a different sensibility, wiith a different generation of authors, just as Džuboks in the 1970s had a talented, brave, great generation. I believed that there were more people who, unfortunately, weren't writing for the papers. It turned out they were good too.[2] |

Since January 1983, Rock was published as an independent magazine in tabloid format, and since March 1985, it was released in magazine format.[1] In 1985, 7" single with the charity song "Za milion godina", the Yugoslav contribution to Live Aid, was released with the magazine.[3]
Popović was succeeded by Vladislav Bajac, who was succeeded by Dragan Todorović.[1] Since October 1988, the magazine was edited by Saša Gajević, and was published under the name Pop Rock.[1] The last, 161st issue, was released on December 13, 1990.[1]
