Rodions Kurucs

Rodions Kurucs (born February 5, 1998 in Cēsis) is a Latvian professional basketball player. He stands 206 cm (6’9’’) tall and plays the small forward position. Kurucs is currently under contract with FC Barcelona of Spain.

Career

In March 2014, he put pen to paper on a multi-year contract with VEF Rīga[1] after having played for the club's youth academy in Latvia's second men's division. He made his debut on VEF's first team during the 2014-15 campaign, logging his first minutes in the Latvia's top-tier LBL,[2] in the VTB United League,[3] and in the Eurocup.[4] He played at the Adidas Next Generation Tournament in 2015.[5]

He signed a four-year deal with Spanish powerhouse FC Barcelona in July 2015.[6]

International career

He played for the Latvian U16 national team at the 2014 Baltic Sea Cup and at the 2014 European Championship. He played a crucial role in helping Latvia win silver at the European Championship, averaging 13.4 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.4 steals as well as 1.1 blocked shots per contest,[7] en route to a spot on the All-Tournament Team[8] and Eurobasket.com All-European Championships U16 First Team honors.[9]
