Rohit Khattar is Founder Chairman of Old World Hospitality Private Limited (O.W.H.), which is India's largest live entertainment organiser and operates India's most comprehensive performing arts and convention centre, Habitat World, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, as well as Epicentre, Gurgaon. In addition, Old World Hospitality operates 2 hotels and over 40 restaurants, which have won several awards since Khattar founded the company in 1990.
Khattar began his career with the small art deco Hotel Broadway, which is home to the iconic 'Chor Bizarre' restaurant, the first restaurant that Khattar created 25 years ago. His latest restaurant 'Indian Accent', amongst numerous other awards, has been awarded the San Pellegrino Best Restaurant award by Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2016 for the second consecutive year and is the only restaurant from India in S. Pellegrino’s list of 100 Best Restaurants in the World. Indian Accent is housed at The Manor, New Delhi, which was voted amongst the '100 Best Hotels in the World' by The Sunday Times, Travel UK. Indian Accent has recently opened at Le Parker Meridien, New York.
In addition to the first Indian theme restaurant (Chor Bizarre), Khattar is credited with several other firsts i.e. concepts that he developed like India’s first Food Court (Eatopia) and first Diner (The All American Diner).
Old World Hospitality serves over 5000 meals daily, hosts over 6000 conferences and banquets and annually organises over 1600 live entertainment events.
Khattar is also an independent director on the board of Mahindra Holidays & Resorts India Ltd, which operates over 40 resorts in India and overseas under the name Club Mahindra. Khattar was featured amongst 'The Big 10 of the F&B industry' and amongst 'the 99 superstars who changed our lives (across India)' by TimeOut. He (along with Vir Sanghvi) was honoured by the 'IFCA Award of Excellence' by the Indian Federation of Culinary Associations in appreciation of his outstanding contribution to the development of the culinary profession and society.
In Entertainment
Rohit Khattar is a creative entrepreneur with interests in Hospitality and Entertainment. Khattar is Founder Chairman of Cinestaan Entertainment Private Limited, a company promoted by him and Anand Mahindra. Cinestaan forayed into segmented television by launching Epic Channel - India's first genre-specific Hindi entertainment channel that celebrates India's heritage.
Cinestaan Film Company has been launched with a 3 film agreement with filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's production house, ROMP. The first film Mirzya directed by Mehra will see the debut of veteran actor Anil Kapoor’s son, Harshvardhan. A fourth film, “The Hungry” has been announced as a co-production with Film London to celebrate 400 years of Shakespeare. Several other projects are in development.
Khattar’s passion for cinema made him spearhead the chronicling of the history of Indian cinema. This has led to the birth of another company promoted by him and Anand Mahindra called Cinestaan Digital Pvt. Limited, which is building a comprehensive cinema destination on the Internet.
Khattar is also Chairman of Mumbai Mantra Media Limited. Part of the $16.7 billion Mahindra Group, Mumbai Mantra is evaluating opportunities in content and infrastructure in the domestic as well as international media and entertainment space. The first step in this direction was the forging of a partnership with the Sundance Institute founded by Robert Redford. This included the Mumbai Mantra | Sundance Institute Screenwriters Lab in India and the Sundance Institute | Mahindra Global Filmmaking Awards. This catalysed the mentoring of 24 Screenwriters and awards to 16 Filmmakers. At the end of this 3-year relationship, a new initiative, the Mumbai Mantra CineRise '100 Storytellers a Year' was announced which shall help nurture 100 Screenwriters annually. 550 Applications were received for this initiative which shall see some films nurtured from the Script to Screen. A large entertainment infrastructure project in Mumbai is also on the anvil.
