Personal life

Roman Seth Griffin Dent was born on November 7, 1988 in Nashville, Tennessee. He is the son of healthcare businessman Thompson Dent.[3] His mother is the romance novelist Joy Dent, who writes under the name Darcy Flynn.[4]

In athletics, Dent won multiple state championships and was named an All-American at the 2007 Nike Indoor Nationals.[5][6][7] Earning a track and field scholarship to the College of William & Mary, he earned a Bachelor of Science at the Public Ivy. Dent commented that the sport was "just a means to an end" as his true passion was film.

Career

Between 2004-2007 Dent worked as an actor, appearing in Beneath the Blue,[8] and winning Best Overall Actor at the 2006 AMTC Winter Convention.[9]

In 2010, Dent made his directing debut with the music video for Billboard Top 40 artist and Reality TV Star Jessie James Decker.[10] So far in his career Dent has directed for artists including: Lauren Francesca, Raquel Castro, Big Brother's GinaMarie Zimmerman and Paola Shea, One Life to Live's Jessica Morris, Thomas Dale, Alyssa Bonagura, Dreya Weber, The Kin, and Dustin Tavella.[11][12][13][14][15]

In 2012 Dent co-founded Platinum Atlantic™, a film production company in Los Angeles, California.[16] He is currently a business development associate at Orbis Global Entertainment, a film finance and production company owned and operated by Marcus and Hidejo Wada located in Los Angeles.[16]

Best known for his documentary Driven, concerning the empowerment of women. The piece features female entertainers in various stages of their careers and lives, and attempts to explore their struggles as women in their selected fields. The Step Up Women's Network called Driven "the new doc you need to see", and notes that the film: "empowers women... to pursue seemingly impossible dreams".[17] Dent acknowledged how critical he feels Driven's message is for today's audience: "We wanted to tell a story that would attempt to inspire those who do so much to inspire us - women".[2]
