Romulus Capital is an early-stage venture capital firm. Based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Romulus invests in and builds early-stage technology and science-enabled businesses. Its name comes from the mythical Romulus, the founder of Rome.

History

The firm was founded in 2008 by Krishna K. Gupta while at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.[1] Romulus was co-founded by Anantshree Chaturvedi and Cankut Durgun and has built a strong portfolio of seed-stage companies since its inception.[2] In 2012, Romulus brought on Neil Chheda to help lead its second fund, which it closed in 2014 with $50M.[3]

In 2015, Romulus' managing partners were named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 List for Venture Capital.[4]

Investments

Romulus has often partnered with companies utilizing technology to solve problems in various verticals[5] including Placester (real estate IT), E la Carte (restaurant IT), Cohealo (healthcare IT), ClassPass (fitness IT), EquipmentShare (construction IT), Estify (auto repair IT), Aila (retail IT), and others.[6]

Romulus also has deep experience with machine learning/artificial intelligence companies, as it has partnered with Cogito, Humanyze, and Ginger.io out of the MIT Media Lab.
