Rouse Properties is a publicly traded real estate investment trust headquartered in New York City. Plans to create a spin-off entity of General Growth Properties, Inc. ("GGP") were announced in August 2011, after GGP filed a Form 10 registration statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission.[1][2] Rouse Properties formally debuted on the New York Stock Exchange on January 13, 2012, following the completion of the spin-off from General Growth Properties.

Focused on management, redevelopment, repositioning, and acquisition of Class B regional malls, Rouse Properties owns 35 malls in 22 states encompassing approximately 24.5 million square feet of retail space.[3] In February 2012, leading investment website Seeking Alpha published an article suggesting that Rouse Properties may be undervalued, but that part of this undervaluation comes from the leverage.[4]
