Roy Bonds (born March 27, 1979) is an American power-lifter who has held records in several weight classes over a period of years.[1]

Early life

Was born on March 27, 1979 to Roy and Roseanne Bonds. He began competition in high school and quickly jumped into the national rankings in bench press and the dead lift. He was all state in both of these lifts through all four years of high school and his late teens and early twenties and was hitting all American poundages from his junior year through that same time frame.[2]

Competitions and achievements

He began competing in the open classes at national meets at the age of 20 although he could have competed at the juniors level until age 23. Roy also competed raw (without the assistance of a blast shirt) in the open division. His major accomplishments include: 8 time All-State in the bench press and dead lift, 6 time All-American in the bench press and dead lift, the youngest man in the 220 lb weight class to bench press 600 lbs and the national record of 603 in the bench press and 635 in the dead lift in drug-tested competition.[1]

Roy never competed in the squat due to his comparatively low weight percentage and had a best squat of only around 750 lbs.[2] He retired at the age of 22 after several shoulder injuries and currently still trains others in power lifting and general fitness.[3][4] He had a brief stint in MMA, winning all three of his fights, and retired from all forms of professional competition at the age of 26.
