Roy Stuart (photographer)
Roy Stuart (born October 25, 1962, in New York City[1]) is an American photographer and film director[2][3][4][5] who lives in Paris.[6] His photographs blend glamour photography and contemporary art[3] with an emphasis on female models[4] and BDSM aesthetics. His photography books have been published by Taschen, the first three volumes of which sold 250,000 copies.[2][3] He has directed the movies Giulia and The Lost Door.[4]
Life and work
Stuart lived in New York in the late 1970s and early 1980s,[7] working as an actor[6] ("his only role of interest was a bit part in “The Godfather Part II,” playing an American soldier back from World War II"),[6] musician and in a colour photo lab.[2] He moved to London where he became a photographer[2] and began taking erotic photographs.[6] He later moved to Paris.[6]
Philippe Garnier, writing in Libération in 2002 said of Stuart's publications by Taschen, "Roy Stuart is quickly becoming a locomotive for this atypical editor."[n 1][2]
