Ryan James (born 20 July 1991) is an Australian professional rugby league footballer who currently plays for the Gold Coast Titans of the National Rugby League. His position is primarily in the second-row but can also play prop.
Career
Early career
Born in Tweed Heads, New South Wales, James played his junior rugby league for the Bilambil Jets. He attended Tweed River High School, where he represented the NSW CHS under 15's schoolboy team in 2006. In 2008, James, who was now attending Palm Beach Currumbin High School, played in the school's ARL Schoolboy Cup winning side. The defeated Matraville Sports High School 24-22 in the final with James winning the Peter Sterling Medal for player of the year. Later that year he represented the Queensland Schoolboys and the Australian Schoolboys.
James was originally contracted to the Melbourne Storm as a teenager, but joined the Gold Coast Titans in 2008 when his older brother joined the club. In 2009, he started the season with the Titans SG Ball side and then moved up to their NYC, where he played 28 games between 2009 and 2010 and scored 13 tries.[2]
Gold Coast Titans
James made his NRL debut in round 14 of the 2010 season for the Gold Coast Titans at Skilled Park. The Titans won 28-14 over the Manly Sea Eagles, with James starring on debut against Manly's more experienced forward pack.[3]
He played four matches in the 2010 NRL season, coming off the bench each time and winning 50% of his matches.
He was named in the 2010 National Youth Competition Team of the Year in the second row.
James played in the 2011 All Stars match, coming off the bench for the Indigenous All Stars.
