Ryan Walsh (born 18 May 1986) is a British boxer who won the English super bantamweight title in 2011 and the British featherweight title in 2015.

Career

Raised in Rochdale and based in Cromer, Norfolk, Walsh started his professional career in February 2008 with a first round knockout of Riaz Durgahed.[1] By April 2011 he had won his first 12 fights, and in October beat Liam Richards by unanimous decision to take the vacant English super bantamweight title at the York Hall, Bethnal Green.[2]

In October 2013 he challenged for Lee Selby's British and Commonwealth featherweight titles at the O2 Arena; The fight went the distance, with Selby getting a unanimous verdict.[3]

After Josh Warrington vacated, Walsh faced Samir Mouneimne for the title in September 2015 at Wembley Arena.[4] The fight went the distance, with Walsh getting a split decision to become British champion.[5] Walsh was set to make his first defence of the title in January 2016 against Ryan Doyle,[6] but instead faced the undefeated Darren Traynor, stopping the challenger in the fifth round.[7][8]

Ryan's twin brother Liam and older brother Michael are also professional boxers, and in 2015 Ryan and Liam became the only set of twins ever to hold British titles at the same time.[4][5]
