The Sacred Heart School of Halifax is a coeducational independent Catholic day school in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. It is one of a number of international schools of the Society of the Sacred Heart. Sacred Heart has a combined campus in central Halifax:
- Co-ed elementary school (Jr. Primary to Grade 6, Stephen Tugwell, Principal) located at 5820 Spring Garden Rd.
- The girls' high school (Grades 7-12, Jennifer Wright, Principal) located at 5820 Spring Garden Rd.
- The boys' high school (Grade 7-12, Robert Marchand, Principal) is located at 5800 Spring Garden Rd., attached to the original building
The separate high schools provide single-sex education.
Founded in 1849, Sacred Heart is the oldest continuously operating school in Halifax and is the only Catholic school in Nova Scotia.[1]
History
Sacred Heart Convent was founded in 1849 by the Society of the Sacred Heart. It was originally one of two convent schools in the city and educated the daughters of the elite for many years.[2]
