Saint-Laurent-de-Mure is a commune in the Rhône department in eastern France.

Location

A small village 18 km to the east of France's third largest city Lyon. Within an easy commute of Lyon city centre, being on the first / last exit before the toll road Péage. Also good for the local international airport Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport. Excellent local shopping with a super ambiance and welcoming people. Good local doctors, pharmacy and laboratory for analysis of medical tests on the main street. Fantastic local sports facilities and excellent summer children's sports activities notably Judo, Archery, Horse Riding, Scouts and excellent support for musical activities to name a few.

History

Of note are the ancient ruined castle walls that can be seen by the careful observer in the environs of the old village.

The Castle of St. Lawrence formerly owned by the Barons Jerphanion Barons of empire, some of whose descendants are among the best jewellers of France. The Rue de la République, Lyon, had the distinction of having sewer children, which has entertained generations of ruffians from ST Lawrence. Also of interest in the woods are the tombs.

Transportation issues

Can be a little noisy (comparatively for France) from the local Autoroute which passes on the other side of the heights of Saint Laurent de Mure and the aircraft which pass from the airport but not objectionable levels by any means and often interesting. The Antonov heavy lift aircraft that leave with Beaujolais nouveau are the noisiest to leave the airport early in the morning but as it's only once a year it merely serves to remind one of the important links France has with its Wine production. The main road RN6 (Route Nationale) passing through the village becomes blocked in the morning (07:45 to 09:15) and evening (16:30 18:00) due to it being a secondary route into Lyon (alternate to the Autoroute). This however does not severely detract from the village as after this it returns to a more village like feel.

Renovation

Renovation work on the local manor house has created an example of modern French approach and attitudes to the use of older propertys. The front facade has been renovated rather than restored and at the rear of the building a glass walled building has been added to allow for expansion. The house forms the focal point of the local woods which are often used by the local junior school for the Kermes and other activities.

The roundabout which connects the village to the airport was somewhat understated by French standards although the blue accent highlights visible at night, point to the subtle taste exhibited by the local Mairie.

Forms part of a commune (grouping of villages) which support each other to provide improved services for the inhabitants.
