Admissions

Saint Gabriel's College is an 11-16 voluntary aided, co-educational comprehensive school, part of the educational provision of the Anglican Diocese of Southwark and the London Borough of Lambeth. Saint Gabriel's opened in September 2012 and is a Specialist Arts and Music College.[1] The college is small and inclusive offering places to students of all faiths and backgrounds.

History

Charles Edward Brooke was the founder of the predecessor school and also set up St Gabriel's Training College for Women Teachers in Cormont Road. The governors of the college decided on the new name, Saint Gabriel's College, to affirm the past and also signal the college's distinctively Christian yet inclusive ethos. Gabriel the Messenger was said to have used a horn to deliver news and, as the college has a strong musical bias, the college emblem consists of 12 horns.

Charles Edward Brooke was the second vicar of St John the Divine, Kennington. The college still maintains strong links with the Church. In 2013 the vicar of the Church is serving on the college governing body as the Vice-Chair of Governors.[2]

School uniform

The uniform consists of a grey blazer, grey trousers or grey skirt, a white shirt, black tights/black socks and a blue, green or purple tie dependant on the learning community to which the student is attached. The blazer has the emblem and the college name sewn into it.

Location

The college is set in Vassal Ward, a leafy area of Camberwell with lots of recreational areas and parks.[3] The college has two sites located within close proximity of each other: Langton road, Camberwell, London, SW9 6UL and Cormont Road, Camberwell, London, SE5 9RF. The main reception is located at the Langton road site.

The following buses stop close to the college: 36, 185 and 436.
