Saintpaulia inconspicua was confirmed as a variety of Saintpaulia, of which there are twenty known species, in 1958, and noted in botanical journals long before then. It is a rare African violet, found in the Uluguru Mountains in Tanzania, East Africa. It is classed as Endangered by the IUCN Red List
