Sakai, Fukui (town)

Sakai (坂井町 Sakai-chō) was a town located in Sakai District, Fukui Prefecture, Japan.
As of 2003, the town of Sakai had an estimated population of 13,082 and a density of 412.68 persons per km². The total area was 31.70 km².
On March 20, 2006, Sakai (坂井町 Sakai-chō) absorbed the towns of Harue, Maruoka and Mikuni (all from Sakai District) to create the city of Sakai (坂井市 Sakai-shi). However, there still is a Sakai-chō in the newly created city of Sakai, having the same borders as the old Sakai-chō.
