Biography

He was born on February 5, 1903 in Fukushima Prefecture. Momoi served as the first president of Hanawa Fukushima Prefectural Technical High School from 1948 to 1951[2] and as the principal of Saitama Prefectural Yono High School from 1953 to 1959.[3] He was decorated with the Order of the Sacred Treasure, 4th Class.[4]

He became oldest living man in Japan upon the death of Jokichi Ikarashi in July 2013.[5] In an interview on Respect for the Aged Day in September 2013, he told reporters that he wanted to live for two more years. On June 10, 2014, it was reported that Momoi had been hospitalized in Tokyo,[6] where he also celebrated his 112th birthday.[7]

Momoi died at a hospital in Saitama, Saitama, Japan from kidney failure at the age of 112 years, 150 days.[8] He was succeeded as the world's oldest man by Yasutaro Koide.[8]
