Salaya is a city and a municipality in Jamnagar district in the Indian state of Gujarat.
Geography
Salaya is located at 22°19′N 69°36′E / 22.32°N 69.6°E.[1] It has an average elevation of 19 metres (62 feet).
Demographics
As of 2011 India census,[2] Salaya had a population of 30,000. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Salaya has an average literacy rate of 26%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 36%, and female literacy is 17%. In Salaya, 19% of the population is under 6 years of age. The population mostly consisted of Vaghers following Muslim Sunni Religion.
Vessel Industries
Salaya is mainly famous for traditional business related to sailing vessel trade and fishing. In Salaya you will get various kinds of fresh sea water fish of very high quality. Many trawlers are operating from Salaya into the nearby coastal areas. The sailing vessels loads cargo from Indian coast to Gulf countries with lots of hardship. The vessels being built here are mostly of dhow type without using any modern technology or maps.
