Sam Collins (chess player)
Sam E. Collins (born 5 September 1982 in Dublin)[1] is an Irish International Master of chess. He won the Irish Chess Championship in 2002 and in 2014, and the Japanese Chess Championship in 2009. Collins represented Ireland at every Chess Olympiad since 2000. In the 2002 edition, held in Bled, Slovenia, he won a Gold Medal.[2] In 2004 in Calvià, Spain, he gained the title of International Master (IM).[3]
Sam went to secondary school in Gonzaga College, in Dublin, and plays for Gonzaga Chess Club in the Leinster Leagues and was part of the 2015 Armstrong Cup winning team. Following school Sam studied for a Law degree at University College Dublin, before being called to the bar. He also holds an LLM from the University of London, and practises as a Barrister in Dublin.
