Sam Dixon (basketball coach)

Sam Dixon (born July 29, 1957) is a high school basketball coach.[1] Since April 2002 he has been the eighth head coach of women's basketball coach at Furman University.[2] In the first five years at Furman, he had a .497 winning percentage.

Dixon was born in Peoria, Illinois and played for Bishop Watterson High School in Columbus, Ohio, and for the College of Wooster, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in physical education in 1979 and was inducted into the Wooster College Hall of Fame in 1989.[1] He also has a master's degree from Eastern Michigan University, and a Ph.D. from University of New Mexico in 1997, both in physical education.[2]

He coached women's basketball as an assistant at Clemson University from 1999 to 2001, and before that at the University of Arizona in 19981999. He served as an assistant men's basketball coach at Northern Illinois University, Davidson College, Kent State University, and Northern Kentucky University, as well as Harrison High School in Kennesaw, Georgia.[2]
