San Rafael Las Flores

A beautiful town in the department of Santa Rosa, Guatemala. Named after the San Rafael Arcangel, from Catholic faith. Currently being exploited by a Canadian mining company Gold Corp. GoldCorp has bought out the corrupt politicians and against the welfare of its citizens, they are destroying natural resources and polluting the area. The locals have protested against the mining of gold, silver and other rich minerals. Many locals have been arrested or murdered in the process leaving the rest of the locals too scared to voice their rights.

San Rafael Las Flores is a municipality in the Santa Rosa department of Guatemala.

El Escobal

The El Escobal silver mine operated by Tahoe Resources near San Rafael Las Flores has been the subject of protests by the local Xinca people but protests have been suppressed by the Guatemalan government.[1]
