Sandhani (Bengali: সন্ধানী) is the first organized volunteer blood donation program in Bangladesh and began on 5 February 1977 with a view to donate blood among patients but it has since broadened its scope of postmortem voluntary eye donation and donating money among the poor patients.

History

Some students of Dhaka Medical College were trying to help one of their friends who were fumbling to afford his daily breakfast. After successful solving this problem they realized that they can solve many difficult tasks. As a result of good union Shandhani was born. Shandhani arranged Voluntary Blood Donation Program in DMCH blood bank on 2 November 1978 for the first time. For this reason 2 November is celebrated as "National Volunteer Blood Donation & Postmortem Eye Donation Day" (Bengali: জাতীয় স্বেচ্ছায় রক্তদান ও মরণোত্তর চক্ষুদান দিবস).
