Monica Nicholle Sandra Dewi Gunawan Basri (8 August 1983), better known as Sandra Dewi, is an Indonesian model and actress. She's also a brand ambassador to Indonesian and South Asia's Products[3]
Biography
Dewi was born in Pangkal Pinang, Bangka on 8 August 1983. She is Indonesian Top Actress, Model, Brand Ambassador, TV Host and Business woman. The oldest of three children born to Andreas Gunawan Basri and Chatarina Erliani,[4] she is a Catholic[2] of Chinese and Sundanese origin. After growing up in Pangkal Pinang[1] and attending Catholic schools,[2] she moved to Jakarta with her family in 2001[1] to attend the London School of Public Relations.[4] Shortly afterwards, she won the Miss Enchanteur beauty contest and in 2002 was selected as Tourism Envoy for West Jakarta. She later participated in the Fun Fearless Female, sponsored by Cosmopolitan Indonesia,[4] contest in 2006, in which she placed second.[1] Dewi achieved mainstream success with her role in the 2007 comedy Quickie Express,[1] for which she received the 2008 Indonesian Movie Award for Best Newcomer.[4] The following year, she collaborated with Dewi Sandra and Luna Maya on the song "Play", which was released for the UEFA Euro 2008 and she starred in Tarzan ke Kota, as well as singing some of the movie's songs.[4]
Dewi has also acted in sinetron (Indonesian soap operas) and in several music videos. In Hidayah, she played a Muslim character. She also performed in the video clip for Mulan Jameela's 2008 single "Wonder Woman". She did so without pay, later saying that the experience made it more than worthwhile.[2] She was later named "the most searched artist" by Yahoo! Indonesia.[1] She has described herself as still being a devout practicing Catholic.[2][5]
Personal life
Sandra Dewi is a Disney's fan. She has also appeared in many Disney's events in Indonesia. She has a very good public image and always talks about fairy tales, because she wants people to believe that if you can believe something great then you can achieve something great. She wants to inspire people to be positive and believe in their selves to achieve their dreams. She was asked to pose as Cinderella for the 2015 Disney Princess Calendar. Sandra is the only Indonesian woman involved in the project. The photo shoot took place in Bangkok, Thailand, under the direction of Thai photographer Michael Chevas. She admitted that whenever she has a chance to go to Disneyland, she will go to Disneyland.
Works
Sandra made her first step into the movie world in 2007 in the successful film ‘Quickie Express‘. This was followed by a successful soap opera ‘Cinta Indah‘ in 2008. She has received several awards and nominations for her acting and well known personality. She has also appeared in Indonesian advertising campaigns for Clear, Pond's , Nokia, Toyota, Yong Ma, Sharp, etc. Sandra Dewi is known as a very loyal brand ambassador of her commercials product or company. She loves to do any promotion activities with the brands. She helps the company to improve the target achievement because she feels it is part of her responsibility. Sandra Dewi is one of the A+ Class Indonesian Models and Actresses and is still a presenter and host for many programs and events. She is also the Director of Corporate Communication of PT Paramount Land, one of the biggest property companies in Indonesia. Sandra Dewi is one of the most paid actors in Indonesia.
