Sangam Jagarlamudi is a village in Guntur district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is located in Tenali mandal of Tenali revenue division.[3][4]

Geography

Sangam Jagarlamudi is located at 16°14′23″N 80°35′08″E / 16.2396°N 80.5855°E / 16.2396; 80.5855 and at an altitude of 15 m (49 ft).[2] The village is spread over an area of 3.70 km2 (1.43 sq mi).[1] It has a summer storage tank at the village supplies water to Guntur Municipal Corporation.[5]

Demographics

As of 2011 census, Sangam Jagarlamudi had a population of 5,447. The total population constitute, 2,679 males and 2,768 females —a sex ratio of 1033 females per 1000 males. 482 children are in the age group of 0–6 years, of which 243 are boys and 239 are girls. The average literacy rate stands at 62.62% with 3,709 literates, significantly higher than the state average of 67.41%.[3][6]

Government and politics

Sangam Jagarlamudi gram panchayat is the local self-government of the village.[7] The panchayat has a total of 20 wards and each ward is represented by an elected ward member, also referred as Panchs.[8][9] The elected members of the gram panchayat is headed by the president of the village, known as Sarpanch. The tenure of all the elected representatives is five for years. While, Secretary of the panchayat is a non elected representative, appointed by the Government of Andhra Pradesh to oversee panchayat activities.[10] Matangi Kristtu Manemmais sarpanch of the panchayat.[8]

Transport

APSRTC operates buses from NTR bus station on Guntur-Tenali road, which passes through Sangam Jagarlamudi.[11] Sangam Jagarlamudi railway station is an E–category station on Guntur–Tenali section and is administered under Guntur railway division of South Central Railway zone.[12]

Education

Zilla Parishad High School is a Zilla Parishad funded school, which provides secondary education in the village.[13]
