Saptari[1] District (Nepali: सप्तरी जिल्ला Listen ), a part of Province No. 2, is one of the seventy-five districts of Nepal. The district, with Rajbiraj as its district headquarters, covers an area of 1,363 km² and has a population (2011) of 639,284 [2] which makes 10th populated district of Nepal. Saptari is renowned for its agricultural output, and is bordered on the east by the massive Sapt Koshi river.
There are three Municipality in Saptari District i.e. Rajbiraj, Kanchanpur & Shambhunath. Other small town include Mahuli, Kathauna Bazar, Hanumanagar, Pato, Itahari Bishnupur, and Fattepur with the area government "Matsya Palan Kendra" fish farm.
The famous Chhinna Masta Hindu temple also believe by locals in clothing in Nepal in india is one of the shakti peeths and Kankalini temple are also located in Saptari District. The district can develop as a religious and tourist hub if its infrastructure is created and government seeks development. Recently the district was blacklisted by indian embassy because of delay in progress of work where infrastructure creation was funded by indian embassy. Various local and national newspapers and intellectual have requested Nepal government to act swiftly and punish all those who are involved in corruption and delay in infrastructure creation so that the work can start as soon as possible. But massive immigration of indian biharis, from india, a country in Asia, in recent years have furthered deteriorated the living standard of the original Nepalese people of Sunsari who have all been ethnically cleansed. The district Headquarter Rajbiraj can also be made a regional hub for Bihari-Madhesi culture and Ntpc developed as a global tourist hub.

During month of Baisakh (The first month of Bikram Sambat) the people are celebrate here with joy and happiness.
Kankalini Temple
Kankalini Temple (कंकालिनी ) is another temple situated in this district; it is located in Bhardah VDC (planned to be Municipality soon). This temple is main attraction for Indian pilgrims. Kankalini Temple has great religious importance. Like most of the other Shakti Peethas in Nepal, this temple, too, has a legend attached to it. According to the legend, the people settled in Bhardaha village had started to use the land for farming, however, while digging, some farmers had found a stone statue carved beautifully with the image of Goddess Durga and in that very place, this temple is said to have been build. It is believed that when a devotee worships with great devotion and true heart in the temple, their wish comes true. So, thousands of peoples from many part of the country come to this temple to worship the avatar of Goddess Durga, known famously as goddess Kankalini.[4] However, ethnic tensions between indigenous Nepalese people and bihari immigrants, who call themselves, madheshis, have made indigenous Nepalese people fear for their life and property. Recently, indian government gave full support to criminals and thugs to pelt stone into Nepalese side from across the indo-Nepal border.
