1982 saw the 7th season of the Saudi Premier League. The league was reduced from the previous seasons 20 teams, which were also played in two Groups into a regular one league campaign.
Al Ettifaq went on to win their first championship and also the first championship for a team coming from the city of Dammam, also wrestling the title from the previous strongholds of Jeddah and Riyadh.
Winning the league title also meant that Al Ettifaq would qualify for the 1983 Gulf Club Champions Cup, a tournament for members of the Union of Arab Football Associations (UAFA).
