Scala & Kolacny Brothers is a Belgian women's choir, conducted by Stijn Kolacny and arranged and accompanied by Steven Kolacny on the piano.

History

Formed in 1996 and winning the Belgian 'Choir of the Year'-contest in 2000, they have made five studio albums, starting with On The Rocks in 2002, in multiple languages.

Most songs are specially made arrangements of well-known musicians and bands such as Oasis, Björk, Radiohead, U2, Nirvana, Depeche Mode, Muse, Rammstein, etc. although they have also been very successful with their own compositions.

In 2006, Rammstein released their live album Völkerball which features Scala's "Engel" in the closing credits of the DVD,

In 2008 Scala was asked to do a project in remembrance of the legendary Belgian singer Pierre Rapsat, who died in 2002. The sold out "Dans les Yeux d’Aurore" tour strengthened Scala’s relationship with Belgium’s French-speaking audience. The number of concerts in Germany also increased steadily and Scala performed more and more songs in German, including its version of MIA’s hit, "Hungriges Herz", which was used in a top national German television commercial.

Scala's album CIRCLE was released through VIVA/NOVA in Belgium in June 2010.

In July 2010, a trailer for the film The Social Network was released around the world, featuring Scala's cover of Radiohead's "Creep".[1] This trailer was seen over 250 million times in cinemas and on TV, as well as over 10 million times in various forms on YouTube.

Also in 2010 Scala & Kolacny Brothers signed for North America with ATCO Records (a Warner Company),[2] as well as re-signed with Indie label PIAS for Europe. ATCO released a limited edition EP DAWN digitally October 26, 2010. A special German edition of Circle, was released as a double CD November 26, 2010 in Germany.

Scala's version of "Every Breath You Take" (The Police) was featured in the trailer for ITV1's period drama Downton Abbey in the fall of 2010. The song was again used on television in New Zealand, Spain and Belgium, as well as in many other countries upon the release of Downton Abbey around the world. Scala & Kolacny Bros.' version of U2's "With or Without You" was used in Downton Abbey's Series 2 trailer in fall 2011. and both the single and album hit #1 in Ireland. In December 2011 the trailer for Downton Abbey Season 2 hit the United States, on PBS. In the UK, ITV used Scala's version of Last Christmas (Wham) for the Downton Abbey Christmas Special in December 2011. Scala & Kolacny Brothers performed at the VIP premiere of the Christmas Special at the Corinthia Hotel in London and became fast friends with the DA cast.

Scala's version of "Creep" was also used in The Simpsons episodes The Ten-Per-Cent Solution aired on December 4, 2011 and The D'oh-cial Network aired on January 15, 2012, after earlier uses in the French movie Poisson Violent, the German movie "Wir Sind Die Nacht" and in the UK soap Hollyoaks. Hollyoaks used Scala's With Or Without You in December 2011. Other major Scala & Kolacny Bros. synchs include the CW USA TV series Nikita and one of Steven Kolacny's own songs "Our Last Fight" in the FX Drama series season III of Sons of Anarchy.

Scala's video clip for the Kings of Leon track "Use Somebody" had its world premiere on Yahoo Music 14 March 2011. A subsequent video for the Foo Fighter's 'Everlong' was directed by Mark Woollen - also responsible for the trailer for 'The Social Network'.

On April 18, 2011, Scala appeared as a musical guest on the TBS show Conan. The German version of the television special 'Live From Bruges' aired on SIXX (Germany) 17 August 2011, after prior airings in Flemish and French in Belgium. The USA version started to air on PBS from November 2011, with a launch on WGBH, Boston.

The self-titled Scala & Kolacny Bros. CD was released by ATCO in the United States 15 March 2011. This CD is somewhat different from the European Circle release. Scala & Kolacny Bros gave their first US performance at SXSW on 18 March 2011, at the legendary Stubbs Barbecue. A North-American tour started in Vancouver on April 7, hit most major markets in the US including LA, Chicago and NY, as well as the Coachella Festival before concluding May 2 in Montreal. 18 & 19 June Scala & Kolacny Bros. performed at the Heineken Dia de La Musica in Madrid. Earlier that month, June 8, they performed for the first time in the UK - a sold out show at the legendary Union Chapel in London. And 17 July 2011 they were the 'special guest' at the Latitude Festival in the UK, playing for about 20.000 fans. 13 December 2011 Scala & Kolacny Bros. played what is now called 'the Ice Show' (the heating in the venue did not work and stage and venue temperatures were below 8 degrees) at the HMV Forum in London, followed by a real Ice show in Ingolstadt, Germany.

The album 'Scala & Kolacny Brothers' was released by PIAS in the UK and Spain June 6, 2011 and in France. A special version of the album, with two Italian language tracks was released in November 2011 in Italy by indie label Carosello and hit the top 10 in Italy during December. [PIAS] UK re-released the Scala & kolacny Bros. album with two additional Coldplay tracks (Yellow and Viva La Vida) December 12, 2011. Scala appeared on the Royal Variety Show (ITV) and the Sports Personality of the year show (BBC1) in that month http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8f7peX5UY0g.

In the Fall of 2011 a special collaboration with German rap-hop star Kool Savas resulted in a special video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMmMHK7CTQs&list=UU_rbfbjfIzVp5NwQcQr4mPQ&index=1&feature=plcp

From September 23 to October 31, 2011, Scala's version of "The Beautiful People" was used as the background music for the 7 Scarezone in Halloween Horror Nights 21 at Universal Orlando. Ironically, the original version by Marilyn Manson was also used in the scarezone.

In February 2012 Scala & Kolacny Brothers performed with Francesco Renga at the San Remo Festival http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rj84G-du05o.

Scala & Kolacny Brothers are managed by All Parts Move LLC in Miami. Agent for North America is Marty Diamond at Paradigm. Agent for the rest of the world is Peter Price at WME London.

Scala & Kolancy Brothers' single, "Engel", is featured in the trailer for the upcoming horror movie, The Possession, starring Kyra Sedgwick and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

In February 2013, their version of Marylin Manson's "The Beautiful People" was used in both the extended[3] and short[4] TV spots for the magical film Beautiful Creatures.

In March 2013, their version of The Mamas and the Papas "California Dreaming" was featured prominently in a commercial for the California State Lottery Powerball. [5]

In March 2014, their version of Metallica's Nothing Else Matters was played at the end of the pilot episode of NBC's new drama "Crisis." The same song was used in a promo for NBC's Heroes Reborn.

In 2014, their version of Radiohead's "Creep" is featured at the end of the documentary "Kids for Cash".

In 2015, Scala was contacted from Los Angeles to make a custom music track for the (TV and online) trailers of the long-awaited new video game Evolve. Scala's singers and the Kolacny brothers entered the studio to record a cover (arranged specially for the trailer) of 'READY OR NOT' by the Fugees.
