School of Information Technology, Nanyang Polytechnic

The Nanyang Polytechnic School of Information Technology (NYP SIT) in Singapore is one of the founding schools since 1998 in Nanyang Polytechnic. The current director of the school is Mr John Tan. SIT utilizes an innovation-oriented program to allow students to explore the latest technology and nurtures their creative thinking and enterprising mindset to prepare graduates to seek a rewarding career in an Internet-centric world.

Centre for IT Innovation

The Centre for IT Innovation (CITI)[1] in Nanyang Polytechnic, School of Information Technology, was established as a platform to provide an impetus towards several key objectives. These objectives focused on CITI as a launch pad for major industrial collaborations and cutting edge R & D projects.

CITI establishes itself as a multi-disciplinary hub that promotes vibrancy and cohesion by enabling students from the various IT diplomas, to work together on industrial and in-house projects. This platform promotes the concept of borderless integration within the entire Polytechnic. It also enables students with different skill-sets to interact and leverage on one another's strengths.

CITI also acts as an incubation zone for creative ideas to be generated and conceptualised. In the process of conceptualisation, cutting-edge technologies are being employed. Through this, CITI enables both staff and students to stay abreast of technological advances. As part of its capabilities development, CITI engages in applied R&D in core competencies such as Information Security, Cloud Computing, Social Media and Business Analytics, Business Rule Solutions, Enterprise Technology, Next Generation Network, and Wireless and Mobile Computing such as Windows Phone, iOS and Android.

Business Analytics Translational Centre

NYP-SIT and Business Analytics Translational Centre (BATC)[2] signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 19-Sep-12 to catalyse innovation, perform technology translation and drive the adoption of business analytics in Singapore. BATC is jointly set up by the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) and the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA). Through translating technologies and developing talents, BATC will play a key role in bridging IHLs and the industries to build the eco-system for Business Analytics in verticals such as the government, insurance, telecommunications, retail, energy, healthcare and banking and financial sectors. Under this collaboration, BATC will work with NYP to transfer analytics knowledge and skills through training and awareness seminars/workshops as to develop a ready pool of local business analytics professionals.

Enterprise Mobility Innovation Centre

The explosive growth in mobility presents the enterprise with new opportunities for innovating business processes, client interactions and workforce collaborations. Anticipating a demand for IT professionals equipped with knowledge and skill sets in enterprise mobility, Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) and SAP signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to launch the Enterprise Mobility Innovation Centre (EMIC) on 1 June 2012.

Located in NYP’s School of Information Technology, the Centre will train IT students and industry partners on various SAP technologies. The centre will also engage in industry projects with companies focusing on the use of modern enterprise mobility tools and solutions to develop rich mobile applications for smartphones and tablets to increase their competitive position and appeal to end users. Through the project collaborations, the Centre also aims to broaden and enhance the curriculum through the injection of technical know-how and best practices in the area of enterprise mobility.
