Science Education Resource Center
The Science Education Resource Center (SERC) is an office of Carleton College dedicated to improving undergraduate science education by supporting faculty. Towards this end, the SERC maintains a large web presence and frequently conducts workshops for faculty. The SERC website includes a variety of resources for teaching science to undergraduate students, especially geoscience, and its contents are continually being updated an expanded. The SERC's workshop series, On the Cutting Edge, similarly deals with using and creating resources for geoscience instruction using the latest research and technology.
The SERC was founded in February 2002, and it has grown considerably in the intervening years. The SERC maintains an extensive digital library of teaching resources, and has worked alongside the Digital Library for Earth System Education (DLESE) and the National Science Digital Library (NSDL) to provide digital resources. The SERC also hosts the National Association of Geoscience Teachers (NAGT) website and the website of the NAGT's journal, the Journal of Geoscience Education. The SERC's programs are largely funded by grants from the National Science Foundation.
