Scott Fenton (5 November 1964 – 21 August 1989) was an Australian professional basketball player who played 140 games in the National Basketball League of Australia from 1982 until his death in 1989.[1]
Fenton attended the Australian Institute of Sport in 1983.[2] He began his NBL career with the Bankstown Bruins in 1982 before moving to the Sydney Supersonics for the 1985 season. After two seasons with the Supersonics, Fenton joined the Perth Wildcats in 1988.
During the 1989 NBL season, Fenton and his fiancee Tina Christie (a player for Perth's female basketball team, the WAIS Breakers) were killed in a horrific car accident. Fenton and Christie were turning into Marmion Avenue in the Perth suburb of Hillarys when reportedly two cars racing down that street with no headlights on slammed into their car. Both Fenton and Christie died instantly.[3]
In his honour, his #14 jersey became the first jersey to be retired by the club and will not be used by any future player of the club. The jersey is one of six retired jerseys that are displayed at Perth Arena, the home of the Perth Wildcats.
