Scott Jeffery

Scott Jeffery (born 11 February 1977) is a Tasmanian Australian rules football field umpire in the Australian Football League. To the end of the 2011 AFL season, he has umpired 208 career games in the AFL, including five finals.[1][2]

In April 2011 Jeffery made a controversial ruling in the final minutes of the match between St Kilda and Richmond that ended in a draw. Under pressure from St Kilda forwards, Richmond defender Luke McGuane handballed through the goal posts for a rushed behind. Jeffery ruled that McGuane was too far from the goal to legally do so and awarded a free kick to St Kilda, from which forward Nick Reiwoldt goaled. This decision was made in spite of the fact that there is no stipulation in the rules of distance from the goal to permit a rushed behind. The AFL later admitted that Jeffery's decision was incorrect.[3]
