Scott L. Montgomery

Scott L. Montgomery is an American geologist, author, and affiliate faculty member at the University of Washington in Seattle. He has written many technical papers, monographs, and several textbooks related to geology and energy. He has diverse interests that cross the boundaries between science and the humanities, having written books and essays on a range of topics in the history of science, science and art, language studies, education, translation, and cultural history. Several of his books, particularly, "Science in Translation: Movements of Knowledge through Cultures and Time", are considered pioneering interdisciplinary works and have been translated into many languages.

His teaching reflects his varied interests, including undergraduate courses on energy, sustainability, and geopolitics; climate change; English as a global language; the role of images in the history of science; and more. His publications have appeared in many journals, including, Science and Nature. He has a B.A. in English from Knox College (Phi Beta Kappa) and an M.S. in geological sciences from Cornell University.
