Scott E. Yancey (born July 9, 1969)[1] is a TV personality, businessman, real estate investor, and author. He is best known for his role on the A&E television series, Flipping Vegas, a modern reality TV show in which Scott and his wife, Amie Yancey[2] purchase and repair dilapidated homes in the Las Vegas Valley, and attempt to flip them for profit.[3] The two are also known for their love of extreme sports, and fancy cars.

Early life

Yancey was born on July 9, 1969 in Los Angeles County, California,[1] and raised in Studio City, California,[4] where he attended North Hollywood High School. From a young age Yancey claims to have had the entrepreneur passion, completing his deal at the age of 14. Young Yancey grew up with the understanding that "Your money works for you."[5]

Personal life

Yancey married his future Flipping Vegas costar, Amie, on January 26, 2000.[6] As of 2014, the couple had a pet dog, a dachshund named Tallulah.[7] Yancey has attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.[8]

Yancey is famous for his love of sports cars. He says, "Growing up, I didn’t have a lot of money. In fact, when I was 16, I sold my drums for $350 bucks, and I went and bought a '67 Mustang that had the most perfect interior, but the front end looked like it hit a wall at 50 mph." [9] Since then, he has owned over fifty cars and today drives a street legal race car. His Porsche GT3RS has been featured on celebritycarsblog.com. He has also been highlighted for driving his Ferrari 458, Mclaren MP4 and the last generation GT3RS.[10]

Amie, who is estimated to be worth $5 million, has worked alongside Scott at Goliath as an agent, investor and her most well-known profession of interior designer. Amie was born in Canada, and has over 600 sold homes under her belt since arriving with her husband in Las Vegas, Nevada. Amie, like her husband, enjoys extreme sports, having owned over eight motorcycles, and is often seen drag racing in her Porsche. She attributes her daredevil spirit to her home ranch where she grew up horseback riding and dirt biking amongst other outdoor sports.[11]

Career

Real estate

In 1983 at the age of 14, Yancey received an insurance settlement of $30,000, which he used to purchase[12] the 2nd deed of trust for a home mortgage as an investment with a 14% interest rate.

While enrolled in college, Yancey was hired to be a runner by Walter J. Plumb III, a Real Estate Attorney and investor. Yancey continued to work with Plumb assisting in multiple real estate[13] transactions such as purchase of a 40-unit apartment complex and converting it to condos along with assembling dozens of land deals subsidizing them into over 3000 lots. Now working independently of Plumb, in 2002 Yancey began developing retail department stores in, Provo, Utah, and Tempe, Arizona.[14]

After selling his department stores and choosing to return to his real estate roots Yancey started Goliath Company (2003),[15] a real estate brokerage and investment firm. Yancey later relocated to Las Vegas in 2004 with his company. Goliath Company focuses on investment properties, the buy & hold approach and finding land to entitle and subsidize by selling to large private companies; which they have managed to do for a few thousand lots.[16]

Flipping Vegas

In 2010, Yancey and Lovable Scoundrels Productions created[17] the television series Flipping Vegas. A&E originally premiered[18] the series on June 18, 2011. The show concluded its fifth season on September 27, 2014. While the show has taken heavy criticism for its reality, the popularity of the show has led to similar shows such as Flipping Boston and Flipping Miami, which premiered in 2012 and 2013.[11]

Yancey Events

The Yanceys created Yancey Events as a way to help others learn about investing in real estate.[9] Using their stardom from Flipping Vegas, coupled with the knowledge and experience they have gained from years in the business, the couple travels across the United States, teaching educational seminars on how to properly invest in real estate.

Charity

Scott and Amie have always been known for making generous donations to different charities. The Yanceys have started charities and events such as the Ride 2 Recovery, where the couple pledged to match donations up to $25,000 in support of the project hero fund.[10] In one episode of Flipping Vegas, the Yanceys donated a home to a wounded veteran.[11]

Publications

Additionally, Yancey has published two books:
