Sean Michael Smith (born May 30, 1991) is an American filmmaker, actor, writer, musician, and producer from Rochester, New York. He is also the head producer of Hearing Damage Studios, as well as the vocalist for such groups as Idioteque, Azedia, and "Smith, Stevens & Smith." In 2015, Smith was awarded the Theatre Association of New York State (TANYS) award for Outstanding Achievement in Acting.

Early life

Born in Dansville, New York, Smith won a statewide songwriting contest hosted by Blackdog Studios [1] in 2008, and later had his first television appearance after being selected as WROC-TV Channel 8's Scholastic Arts Spotlight.[2]

Smith went on to study music performance, theater, and film at Roberts Wesleyan College, Eastman School of Music, Rochester Institute of Technology, and Empire State College. While at Roberts Wesleyan College, Smith studied Stanislavski Method acting under Susan Gibney of Star Trek: The Next Generation and Crossing Jordan.[3]

Career

In 2010, Smith provided production on a remix of KT Tunstall’s Fade Like a Shadow with Indaba Music.[4] Smith has also collaborated with Michelle Chamuel (vocalist on NBC's The Voice) on a track called Asleep,[5] RuPaul's Drag Race music producer Matt Moss on a remix called Vagabond, and also has provided a remix for Faded Paper Figures.

On November 14, 2011, Smith was a musical guest on the podcast Comedy Bang! Bang! alongside Andy Daly and Jason Mantzoukas in an episode called Mayor of Hollywood.[6] During December 2011, Smith appeared as himself in BBC America's Twitter promotional campaign for the annual Christmas episode of Doctor Who.

In May 2015, Smith made a cameo in a music video by The Voice Season 7 knockout contestant Amanda Lee Peers. During the summer of 2015, Smith was the artistic director for the planned animated series "Every Earth" and the video game "Whats With The Moon" which he provided voice acting for both. In November 2015, Smith was awarded the Theatre Association of New York State (TANYS) award for Outstanding Achievement in Acting.

He has since worked on projects spanning film, music, and theater, including Nicholas Peterson's film The Visitant starring Amy Smart and Doug Jones.[7]

Personal life

Smith is an equal rights activist who has been affiliated with several organizations such as Invisible Children,[8] Falling Whistles, and Farm Animal Rights Movement.

Since 2013, Smith has been a partner with Charity: Water, donating 50 percent of album sales to the organization.

In 2015, Smith and Reverbnation became partners with the charity Keep a Child Alive.
