Serge Ognadon Akakpo (born 15 October 1987) is a Togolese footballer who currently plays for the Süper Lig club Trabzonspor on loan from 1461 Trabzon. He previously played for the Slovak Corgoň Liga club MŠK Žilina and NK CM Celje in the Slovenian First League.

Career

Akakpo began his career at kwik eine breaking through the Youth Academy[1] and made his first team debut with the first team for Auxerre in July 2007. Akakpo was also a starting member of the full senior roster at Auxerre.[2]

The French international Younes Kaboul played with Akakpo at Auxerre prior to his move to England and stated that Akakpo is a very talented player with potential. Akakpo left Auxerre on a free transfer in January 2009 and moved to SC Vaslui on a lucrative deal.[3]

International career

Akakpo has since gone on to represent his full senior national team of Togo in World Cup Qualfiers and friendly matches since 2008. He is currently captain for the Togo national football team, including two 2010 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Zambia and Swaziland and one friendly match.

He participated in both U20 and U17 France youth national teams, had appearances for U17, U18 and U19 French national team prior to changing national team affilitiation to Togo. Akakpo competed in 2004 U17 World Championships with France youth national side.[4]

He played his first international game for Togo, on 10 September 2008, against Zambia in Chililabombwe. Having competed as a French youth international in the U17 and U19 teams plus the Beninense B Team.

In January 2010, Akakpo was one of the players involved when the Togo national team's bus came under a gunfire attack on the way to the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations in Angola.

Personal life

Akakpo is, along with his former teammate Irélé Apo, of Beninense and Togolese descent, he holds also besides the French passport.
