Sergei Shipov (born April 17, 1966 in Murom) is a Russian chess grandmaster with a peak FIDE rating of 2662 (No. 23 in the world on the January 1999 list), chess journalist and author. He is the man behind the popular chess website Crestbook,[1] where, among other services, he provides online commentary to current chess events.
In 2006 he won the Midnight Sun Chess Challenge in Tromsø, Norway with a score of 7.5/9, half point ahead of Magnus Carlsen.[2]
