Sergei Mikhailovich Pershin (born March 27, 1949 in Ishimbay) is a Russian space scientist. Pershin has published more than 100 technical and scientific papers in refereed journals, holds 10 patents and has supervised 5 PhD dissertations. His given name is styled Serguei in Latin script.
On the basis of this approach he has observed some regions on the surface of Mars with anomalous strong color index values indicating the presence of organic pigments. Pershin says this method can be used to study prospective landing sites directed to the question of finding life on Mars.
