Server Technology, Inc. offers power distribution products and solutions for data centers, telecommunications operations and branch offices. It is headquartered in Reno, Nevada. They have offices located in the United Kingdom, Germany and Hong Kong.

Over 60,000 customers around the world rely on Server Technology’s cabinet power distribution units (cabinet-level PDUs, or CDUs) and power management solutions to help reduce downtime, facilitate capacity planning, improve energy utilization and drive efficiency.

Server Technology has the largest patent library[1] for providing power in zero-U and horizontal power distribution unite (PDU) configurations compatible with today’s racks and dense compute infrastructure requirements. They have 48 granted and 54 pending. [2]

History

Server Technology was founded in 1984, and by 1987 had grown large enough to acquire CrossPoint Systems, a manufacturer of PC data switches. In 1990, Server Technology introduced its first power and network control products.

Server Technology currently has 170+ employees with 16 offices worldwide.

Products

HDOT CDU

High-density outlet CDUs feature 20 percent more outlets in the same form factor as traditional CDUs. Server Technology offers a configurator tool that allows customers to build their own smart HDOT PDU with the number of outlets they want and where they want them.[3]

PRO2 CDU

The next evolution in PDU design; with a shallower form-factor, faster processing, and more memory. This platform includes a hot-swap network card and Star Multi-Linking, which allows up to four power circuits using one IP address.

Sentry Power Manager (SPM)

SPM provides one central location to manage and monitor all of the intelligent PDUs within your data center (including competitive PDUs). This cost effective software solution provides complete visibility to both power and environmental monitoring within the data center. Easy installation and setup ensures a quick return on investment.

Basic CDU and Metered CDU

Entry level CDUs that provide reliable power distribution with or without local current meters.

Smart CDU and Switched CDU

Adds local current meters, network accessible power and environmental monitoring; with or without control of individual outlets.

PIPS and POPS CDU

Per-Inlet-Power-Sensing (PIPS) and Per-Outlet-Power-Sensing (POPS). Power monitoring per device or individual outlet in addition to the features of the standard Smart and Switched CDU.

−48 VDC CDU

The Sentry Switched −48 VDC Cabinet Power Distribution Unit family includes switched products which provide fuse protected, reliable power distribution for routers, servers, and other network devices for mission critical networks in a telecom environment. All Switched −48 VDC CDUs also provide per-output current sensing.

PatentlLitigation

In June 2014, a Reno, Nevada jury awarded Server Technology, Inc. damages totaling $10,787,634[4] in an action for patent infringement brought against American Power Conversion Corporation (“APC”), a subsidiary of Schneider Electric SA (Euronext: SU). The Server Technology patents in suit are US Patent No. 7,043,543 (Vertical‐Mount Electrical Power Distribution Plugstrip) issued May 9, 2006, and US Patent No. 7,702,771 (Electrical Power Distribution Device Having A Current Display) issued April 20, 2010.[5]

The complaint was filed in United States District Court for the Northern District of Nevada in December 2006. In February 2007, APC was acquired by Schneider Electric SA (Euronext: SU) headquartered in Rueil‐Malmaison, France. The jury found APC’s AP7900 series and AP8900 series vertical, switched Power Distribution Units infringed both of the Server Technology patents.[6]
