Seventh-day Adventist Higher Secondary School, known as SD-High is a co-educational English-medium private higher secondary day school in Kochi, Kerala, India.
Campus
The school has a multi-building campus. The school is divided into four blocks: Primary block, Science block, Laboratory block and Restroom complex.

The school is located at Kaloor, Kochi, India on the Chammany Lane, half a kilometre South of the National Highway, midway between Kaloor bus stand and Lisie Hospital Junction.

History
The school opened its doors in 1971. It is operated and managed by the South West India Union of Seventh Day Adventist, Evergreen Lane, Moospet Road, Thrissur– 5. The school is affiliated to the Southern Asia Division of Seventh-day Adventists, a part of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. The school falls under the Seventh-day Adventist educational system which is the second-largest Christian schooling system in the world.

Affiliation
The school is affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations and follows its curriculum. It offers two courses for the external examinations, the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) Examination which is a K-10 public board examination for students in India who have just completed Grade 10 (equivalent to the first two years of the 4 year High School programme) and the Indian School Certificate (ISC) Examination which is a K-12 public board examination for those completing Grade 12 (equivalent to the Senior Year/ Final Year of the 4 year High School programme). The school is a permanent examination centre of the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations for both ISC and ICSE examinations. The syllabuses for Grades 1-8 have been chosen so that the classes would form a preparatory course towards the ICSE examination.
Courses
It offers two courses for the external examinations, the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) Examination which is a K-10 public board examination for students in India who have just completed Grade 10 (equivalent to the first two years of the 4 year High School programme) and the Indian School Certificate (ISC) Examination which is a K-12 public board examination for those completing Grade 12 (equivalent to the Senior Year/ Final Year of the 4 year High School programme). The Indian School Certificate is recognised by UK universities and so applicants are no longer required to obtain ‘A’ level qualifications or complete bridging courses, while seeking entry to Universities in the UK and other overseas universities in the Commonwealth. The Indian School Certificate qualification is the only qualification from India that has been granted this recognition. Certification under the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education board will be recognized around the world, particularly by foreign schools and universities when compared to the central board’s local margin. Due to the emphasis laid on English in ISC, students from this board may hold a slight edge over other students in exams like TOEFL, SAT, etc.
Academics
The medium of instruction in the school is English and the scheme of studies is in accordance with the scheme laid down by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations for Secondary and Higher Secondary stages. Special importance is given to English (including oral and aural English). The school has Kindergarten (LKG & UKG), Primary School (Grades 1-4), Middle School (Grades 5-8) and High School (Grades 9-12) classes.
The school has a three-termed examination system similar to the trimester system. Value Education/Moral Instruction is compulsory for all classes. Scriptural lessons from The Holy Bible is taught as Value Education. The school offers Malayalam, Tamil and Hindi as Second Language as well as Third Language. Students can opt one of the three languages towards their Second Language while one of the other two towards Third Language.
- Second language is compulsory for students from Grade 1 to Grade 10 and third language is compulsory for all students from Grade 5 to Grade 7.

Compulsory English has two papers, Language & Literature. Physics, Chemistry. Biology & Computer Science also have two papers, Theory & Practical. Students offering such subjects also take the practical examination; otherwise the school considers the subject in question to be incomplete. All other subjects i.e. Mathematics, Commerce, Accounts, Economics, Business Studies, Second Language & Elective English have only one paper, Theory.
Science students are taught only sections A and B in Mathematics i.e. Pure Mathematics and Commerce students are taught section A and C i.e. Business Mathematics. In Physics, Electrotechnics and Nuclear Physics is covered in twelfth grade and Classical mechanics and Thermodynamics is covered in eleventh grade.
The school makes coding knowledge in Java, a fundamental for high school students. The making of Computer Applications a compulsory subject gives students an opportunity to learn the programming fundamentals of Java and to develop knowledge of coding and Computer Science as a whole.

The Onam Celebrations of the school is associated with The Floral Carpet & Tug of war competitions.
Temperance Competition

The students of the school participate in Olympiad examinations organized by Science Olympiad Foundation, (SOF) and Silver Zone. The students of the school are participate in National Debate Championships including the Frank Anthony Memorial All-India Inter-School Debate conducted by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations. Debates are held regularly for all high school students.
Creative Writing
The students of the school write essays, short stories, poems and plays. The students participate in the Albert Barrow Memorial All India Inter School Creative Writing Competition by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations.

Annual Athletic Meet
The annual Athletic Meet is the sports competition conducted at The Maharajas College Ground, M G Road, Kochi. Major events held are sprints (50 metres, 100 metres, 200 metres and 400 metres), jumps (long jump & high jump), shot put and 4×100 m relay.
Annual Games
The Annual Games are conducted at the school. Major games at the school are field hockey, badminton, volleyball, handball, throwball, dodgeball, basketball, football, kho kho, cricket, chess, scrabble, charades, hangman and carroms.
All classes have a Physical Education hour every week. Students can also stay back and play games like hockey, volleyball, badminton, etc. The school has a Sports Club, Art Club and Literary Club.

Social welfare services
Students complete assignments of Socially Useful Productive Work (SUPW) and community service which forms part of the ICSE & ISC curriculum. Students are also advised to learn Contemporary Studies which is an optional component of SUPW. In Contemporary Studies students are taught:
- To analyse concepts and practices within socio-economic, political contexts in the society.
& To examine and evaluate development strategies and experiences so as to be able to generate a viewpoint of their own.
- To understand the inter-relationships of development in the country, in the region and at the international levels in commerce, trade and socio-political areas.
- To develop a challenging attitude to act on the social and environmental matters in order to introduce change for a sustainable social order.
- To appreciate the conflicts of interests between social political organizations at the national and international levels and develop a comprehensive appraisal of their impact on the individual.
Students make visits to local institutions to offer voluntary service. They also collect funds from within the school for relief organizations like HelpAge India et al.
The School's Nature Club pursues issues such as environmental protection, wildlife conservation, and clean Kochi.
House System
The school has four houses - Red, Green, Blue and Yellow. All competitions are inter-house competitions. The Champion's Trophy of the school is given to the house with the maximum number of points from all the competitions at the Year-Ending Ceremony during The Annual Day.

The school has a student body known as The Prefects' Council. The Prefects' Council is headed by the Head-Boy and Head-Girl. The Prefects' Council also comprises the Captains & Vice Captains of the respective houses.

Farewell
The school conducts the farewell/valedictory function in the month of February to bless the students graduating high school and secondary school just before the study holidays for the ICSE and ISC exam.
Admission
The school admits students from Lower Kindergarten (LKG) to 8th Grade and to 12th Grade. The school prefers to admit children who complete three years six months of age to LKG and corresponding increase in age to higher classes for admission by the 1st of May every year. The school normally does not admit students to classes IX, X and XII. Proficiency in English is the chief criterion for admission. A written test will be conducted for students from 2nd Grade and upwards.
