Political career

Shaku Akka as called by the people of Puttur elected MLA for the first time in 2004 from Puttur. In spite of Puttur BJP workers choosing her as MLA candidate in next election, she was denied tickets to contest. She questioned highcommad samskruti and challenged BJP to establish internal democracy. Later, she along with senior BJP leaders Mr.Ram Bhat (Ex-MLA), Mr.Balakrishna Borker, Anna Vinayachandra (Ex-MLC) and few others formed SWABHIMANI VEDIKE for social service. She was re-elected as the MLA of Puttur in 2013 Karnataka assembly elections. Won in 2004 Assembly Election with 50.85% of votes gain for BHARATIYA JANATA PARTY party in PUTTUR constituency and again wins in 2013 Assembly Election with 46.46% of votes gain for INDIAN NATIONAL CONGRESS party in PUTTUR constituency
