Shalash al-Iraqi
Shalash al-Iraqi is the pseudonym of an essayist and fiction writer from Iraq. He first attracted notice in late 2005, writing an opinion column for the website Kitabat, and quickly gained popularity among Iraqi citizens, especially those with Internet access. He writes with a dark, sarcastic sense of humour and is said to evoke the voice of the common Iraqi through ordinary language and idiomatic expressions. Shalash al-Iraqi refuses to align himself with particular political groups, and his writings have widespread appeal, transcending ethnic and sectarian differences to evoke a common Iraqi spirit. He lives in Sadr City.
